Lego Mindstorms! (Part 6)

This is how we built a fan. We built the base and we supported the motor with 2x4 and 1x2 bricks. After that we built the blades with 1x8 plates and we added a small blade with small 1x4 plates. Then we put a motor onto the RCX box. Next we got 2 pulley wheels and a blue band and a 1 stud axle to attach to the blade. We had a great time.
We could make a fan with 1 axle but we made one with 2 axles. It went faster than the one with one motor.
Last week we knew we could make a car with one motor and we put one motor in it. Corrie and Eric made a trailer for it so it could pull the RCX box. But we made another car with 2 axles. We decided to try this with our fan - we actually put three motors in it at one stage - the blades went super fast!!

Lego Mindstorms! (Part 6)

This week our design task was to create a windmill with a RCX box, pulleys and Lego.
We started with the base then we put a engine into the design. The pulley was next, then elastic. We attached the motor, pulley and elastic to each other. After that I got a lot of 4x12 peices to make the fan. Then we attached the RCX box to motor with a cable. I built one with Dean. The others were built by Jordan and Paul, Corrie and William. Alex, Leandro and Dillon designed another with really cool blades. My design with Dean is on the video - Play it!

Lego Mindstorms! (Part 5)

I decided to design a single axle car. We had used a pulley system when we created cranes and thought it was cool.
I attached a pulley to the axle. This pulley was joined to a pulley on the grey engine on the RCX. When it was powered up, both pulleys turned, turning the axle. Check out my cool car!!

Lego Mindstorms! (Part 5)

This week we created a moving car. We had a choice to design a single axle car, or a car using two engines (using ports A and C ) on the RCX box. Using two sources of power, one to power each wheel allows us to program the car to turn right or left!
We designed a small truck and chose a single axle, supported by bushels, and turned using a pulley and blue belt or elastic. Check it out!!

Figure 1: partail car frame

Bushings ar put on each side of the beam from keeping the tires from slipping back an forth.

They should be close but not TOO close. If they are too close the axel will not able to turn (and hence the car will not be able to move).

Figurer 2: sturdy car frame

It is important that the frame be as rectangular an symmetric as possible if there is more friction

on one side the car will tend turn in that direction.

Ireland's Democracy (Dáil Eireann)

Dáil Eireann is the more powerful and democratic of two houses. It has 166 members called teacht dalaí [TD'S]. Every citizen of Ireland over 21 years of age who is not disqualified by the constitution or by law is eligible to be elected to the Dáil.
Td's are paid and they attend meetings in Dail Eireann.
These meetings are held about 90 days and deal with problems of the country and pass laws to try solve these problems.

Ireland'd Democracy (An tOireachtas!)

Our Parliament is known as ''An tOireachtas''.
It consists of the president and two houses- Dáil Eireann and Seanad Eireann.
The president and the Dáil are elected by direct vote of the people, where as the Séanad is not.

Ireland's Democracy (The Constitution!)

In Ireland we live in a democracy. Democracy means "Rule by the people" - the people decide who is to run the country.
Abraham Lincoln, a famous America president defined democracy as "government of the people, by the people and for the people"!!
When a new state is brought about one of it's first duties is to draw up a constitution.
A constitution is a set of laws that determine how the country is to be ruled.
The government must abide by these laws. The people can change or amend the Constitution by a vote known as a referendum.
Eamon DeValera wrote the first Constitution in 1937 and it was approved by the Dáil and proposed to the Irish people.
It was accepted by them.

Our School under New Rule!

When we're in the classroom,
It can feel like a tomb
But sometimes we like school,
'Cause we're actually really cool,
so here are changes for when we rule,
In the yard there'll be grass and a swimming pool
No reading, writing and always fun,
Just chilling and relaxing in the sun,
Eating sweets and playing a Ps2,
This is the kind of school for you!

Our Poem!

Our School Poem

We now rule the school,
The teachers think its oh so cruel!
but we think its quite cool,
Mr. O leary hates it the most

'Cause in the morning he can't get toast!!
We munch on anything we like,
It gets delivered by the pizza bike!
We make our yard a chill out zone,
While we listen to tunes on our phone
The teachers clean on their hands and knees,
While we say more coke and pizza please,
We're at the pool relaxing having fun,
But the teachers dont know that their work is never done!
Dean and Corrie are looking fine,
While we play other nerds online,
And when we are going out the gate
We remind the teachers not to be late!!

By Dean and Corrie

Our Teachers!

Imagine Breda at break today,
She would dance and skip and play,

Mr O ' Leary will be happy,
Singing 'All the sweets are for meee!'.
But Mr Candon will give us lines,
Because we're bad and late sometimes,
So here's my advice, just listen,
We should take all the rule,
And stick them in the bin!
But when he sees what we have done,
He'll wait at the gate and grab us in!!
So perhaps we better not do it after all,
Maybe just enjoy our school and our football!
